Individual help with relationship issues and more

Help for issues you are facing and for working toward your goals

As a trained and licensed psychotherapist and as a trained coach, with over 20 years of experience as a therapist and coach, I help people to understand what might be getting in the way of the progress they would like to make - in personal relationships, as parents, with family members and/or at work

Psychotherapy, therapy, counseling or coaching - What's the difference?

These are all labels for ways of helping people. The bottom line is that, whatever the approach, it has to feel like a good fit. Some clients come with clear goals or issues they are grappling with, other clients would like to feel better and/or understand what's going on in their life

FAQs

Here are answers to common questions about how I work with couples

What's your approach?

I start with the belief that whatever is going in, there is some way in which it "makes sense", even if it isn't working for us. And, often, we aren't aware of the ways in which it might make sense. So, not only are we feeling the effects of something, we also feel the effects of those feelings - we ask ourselves "why am I feeling what I'm feeling" or even tell ourselves "I shouldn't be feeling the way I do." Often, one of the first steps toward moving forward is finding more curiosity and compassion toward ourselves and what is going on in our lives.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes. It's important that this feels like a good fit. I usually plan for 20 - 30 minutes for us to touch base before deciding whether to get started.

Do you accept insurance?

I am not on any insurance panels, so I am considered out-of-network. I can provide you with a "superbill" that you can submit to your insurance company.

How do I pay you?

You can pay me by Zelle, Venmo or check.

How long are the sessions and how often would we meet?

I usually meet with my clients for an hour, but we can decide together what will make the most sense. I see some clients weekly and other clients every 2 -3 weeks.

How many sessions will we need?

This is different for everyone. There is no explicit or assumed contract about how long we will meet. My hope is that all clients leave feeling that our time together was helpful.

What is your training?

I received a Masters in Social Work degree over 20 years ago from Columbia University and have worked as a therapist and coach since then. I am a constant learner and continue to look for new approaches that can be helpful for my clients. I've studied AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy) with Diana Fosha, Coherence Therapy with Bruce Ecker as well as many other approaches. I consider what I think will be most helpful for each client. I also have an MBA from INSEAD in France.

What is the philosophy behind the way you work?

I believe that everyone is doing the best that they can and that sometimes, that doesn't work. Together, we can use our curiosity and compassion to make sense of what is going and how we got to wherever we find ourselves.

Also, as human beings, we think and we feel. Sometimes we do more thinking and sometimes we do more feeling. It's helpful to be able to pay attention to thoughts and to feelings.

Do you collaborate with other therapists / counselors?

I'm happy to work with other therapists. If you are also in couples therapy it can be very helpful, if everyone agrees, to make sure that everyone is on the same page and to get a fuller picture of what is going on through discussions (with permission, of course) about what each therapist is noticing.

How do I start?

Starting is simple! You can reach out to schedule an initial consultation. This first meeting helps assess your needs and determine the best approach for your relationship.
